Geoff Vana has spent his life caring for others—as a dedicated trauma and acute care surgeon, a compassionate teacher, a devoted husband, and a loving father. He’s always been the one people turn to in moments of crisis. Now, he faces a crisis of his own and needs our help.
On July 7th, 2025, Geoff was suddenly and severely affected by Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare and life-threatening neurological disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves. Within hours, Geoff experienced rapid and near-total paralysis, eventually requiring a ventilator to breathe.
What began as nerve pain in his hands quickly progressed to loss of mobility, blurred vision, difficulty speaking, and paralysis from the neck down. Geoff remains fully aware, engaged, and using every ounce of his strength and creativity to communicate with those around him. Though he’s struggling, he continues to fight with determination.
Geoff now faces a long and unpredictable road to recovery, which will require months of intensive hospital care, rehabilitation, and ongoing specialized support. Guillain-Barré recovery timelines vary, but one thing remains certain: Geoff is fighting with everything he has, surrounded by the unwavering love of his wife, Anna, and their two young sons, Aiden (5) and JP (3).
At Geoff’s side every day is Anna, his fiercest advocate and the heart of their family. She has poured every ounce of herself into supporting him through this terrifying and uncertain time. Their sons and their sweet dog, Layla, are deeply affected by this sudden shift in their world.
Geoff has always given selflessly—to his patients, colleagues, friends, and community. Now, it’s our turn to give back.
Funds raised will help cover:
- Ongoing medical and rehabilitation expenses
- Home care and accessibility modifications
- Support for Anna and the boys during this difficult time
- Giving the Vana family the flexibility to focus on healing
Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a meaningful difference. Your generosity will help ease their burden and provide hope as Geoff continues his recovery.
We believe in miracles.
We believe in prayer.
We believe in the power of medicine.
We believe in healing.
And most of all—we believe in Geoff.
Thank you for standing with Geoff and the Vana family during this incredibly difficult journey.
