Support Geoff's Recovery from Cardiac Arrest

Donation protected
As some of you may know, my incredible partner, Geoff Roby, experienced something last week that most people do not survive: sudden cardiac arrest. Last Wednesday, March 19th, Geoff came home from work but stopped in the office to say hello to a friend before going into our apartment. He collapsed and wasn't breathing. EMS was contacted very quickly, which ultimately saved his life. After being resuscitated on sceen, he was transported to St. Alphonsus ER, where they worked to stabilize him for almost 2 hours.

Geoff spent 2 nights & 2 days in the Cardiac ICU. The first 18 hours, he was in a medically induced coma. They transferred him to the cardiac step-down unit for another 4 nights. There was a team of more than 5 Physicians working to identify what happened and develop a treatment plan. After a battery of scans and tests, it was ultimately determined he was experiencing A-Fib, an erratic heart rate.

Geoff needed to have an internal defibrillator implanted to ensure his heart doesn't arrest at any point in the future. He finally came home Tuesday evening, but this is just the start of a long road of recovery. He will be receiving treatment and therapy for cardiac rehabilitation and for a traumatic brain injury. Since his arrest lasted over 10 minutes before he received the defibrillator shock he needed to breathe again, his brain was not receiving the full amount of oxygen it needs. He can not drive for at least 4 to 6 weeks and will be out of work for an unknown length of time. I am also missing several weeks of work to help with his medical needs.

Geoff is the strongest man I know. He survived what less than 5% of people survive when experiencing an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

We are now facing an incredibly challenging time. Between the many weeks of lost wages, our regular monthly bills, dozens of rehab appointments, and mounting medical bills, we need help. We are turning to the incredible community of friends and family to help us. Geoff's recovery will keep him from working a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks. Additionally, he may not be back to full duty at work for even longer.

Any support will help us both weather the storm we found ourselves in. We appreciate everyone and are thankful to have such incredible people in our lives.

We love you,

Geoff and Heather
