Support Genie's Knee Surgery

I'm raising money for my best friend, Eugene. He is a 4-year old German shepherd retriever. He is a very active dog. He loves mountain-biking, swimming, frisbee, peanut butter, Sea-point Beach, and tennis balls. He has had a very rough and mentally taxing year though.

Most recently, this October, he had an $8,000 dollar surgery to fix his knee where he had a torn meniscus and ACL (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy). From May-August we were in isolation for heartworm treatment $3000 (not covered by insurance). We were told that we needed to treat the heartworm before his lameness. Then in August, he had a terrible infection in his elbow bedsores that landed us in the emergency room 3 separate times. Followed by his first skunking directly in his cone head.

I rescued Gene from the south 3 years ago. I am a high school art teacher, a kittery renter, and with my recent medical injuries, I did not/do not have the funds to pay for his compiled vet bills. If I can raise enough money to cover the cost of what his insurance will not cover (TBD-claims processing, hopefully 80% for the TPLO surgery), we will be able to get back to freely enjoying the great outdoors.

I have a new and profound appreciation to all the parents out there. Its just me and Gene in this world, and I never knew how hard it could be to make "the best decision" for another being. Despite what we are able, doing the best we can is all we can do sometimes. I find reassurance knowing that there are many people out there that share a similar journey. I know I can do better by Genie and ultimately our time together is priceless.
