Help Genevieve Fight Autoimmune Encephalitis

Hello, my name is Alyssa Johnson, and I’m reaching out to raise funds and awareness for an incredible young woman — Genevieve, a 17-year-old high school senior who is in the fight of her life.

Genevieve is battling Autoimmune Encephalitis, a devastating and extremely rare condition that affects about 1 in 1.5 million people. This disease causes the immune system to attack the brain — essentially making her brain “on fire.” It can lead to seizures, confusion, memory loss, and life-threatening complications.

On top of this, Genevieve is also facing Hashimoto’s Encephalopathy and Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), but the Autoimmune Encephalitis is the most critical and pressing challenge. Despite months of treatments, her condition is now unresponsive, and her only hope lies in getting specialized care at the Mayo Clinic.

Here’s just a glimpse of what she’s endured:

In February, Genevieve had open-brain surgery to remove an AVM.

In July, a residual AVM reappeared, and she now likely needs radiation treatment.

She continues to experience the debilitating effects of Autoimmune Encephalitis, which threatens her life every day.

Even the best neurologists in Nebraska have said:

> “We don’t have answers here, and we don’t know.”
