Support Genesis’ Climate Justice Storytelling & Activism

I’m fundraising return to Antigua & Barbuda to be closer to loved ones and continue my work in climate justice and the food sovereignty movement in the Caribbean.

For five years, I’ve balanced work as a farmer, researcher, and storyteller, moving between Antigua and the U.S. In a few weeks, I’m returning to steward Body Pond watershed, a lifeline for my community and land cultivated by my family for at least four generations. This work continues the legacy of my great-grandfather, a sharecropper who, through mutual aid with neighboring farmers, secured land and fed our community.

Today, overdevelopment & land grabbing threaten lands meant for feeding the community. We are also still dealing with colonialism in our food systems that makes staples like beans cost up to $18 a can. In this moment, food sovereignty is a radical act of resistance sustained through collective care. Mutual aid has always been our tradition.

When I return home, I plan to:

1. Document oral traditions with my grandmother, preserving ancestral agroecology and climate adaptation strategies still practiced here through film.
2. Restore and steward our family’s farmland, applying agroecology & food justice principles. I plan to start on 1.5 acres and redistribute food shares in my village/neighborhood.

My post-grad job was rescinded due to budget cuts, and despite 5 years of experience, it’s been incredibly difficult to find work that aligns with my values. I’m currently working 60+ hours a week in NYC just to get by, with limited space left for healing & creativity. I am simply not built to sustain life in Babylon, and I’m done convincing myself that burning out will somehow lead to liberation. After years of learning, growing & working, I want to begin embodying collective liberation now, and part of that means asking my community for help.

This fund will mostly cover costs for housing and food during the transition & an emergency buffer as I establish local and remote opportunities.

If you can, please consider donating to my GoFundMe and share it in your networks! If you’re not able to donate, feel free to reach out if you want to share ideas, solidarity, or remote opportunities in storytelling, agroecology, or climate communication. Also, knowledge of publicly funded scholars, artists & activists or any people who transitioned to launch similar projects would be incredibly helpful.

Thank you all so much for your support! I will keep you all updated on my project over the next few months!
