Gene Stark is a 91-year-old Navy Veteran, who served at sea in the Korean War. His wife passed away 8 years ago and he has no family to help him. His health and home had been in drastic decline for years. Last year, a close friend stepped in to help, but quickly realized that Gene truly needed full-time assistance and could no longer live alone. He also needed a new place to live. His home was destroyed by hurricane Florence and ever since then he had been living in a camper, which was deteriorating to the point of being unsafe. Unfortunately, most of Gene's funds had been exhausted by his wife's medical bills, as she was quite sick for a while before she passed. Having no real assets, he was really out of options. Thankfully his friend was able to locate some veteran's benefits that Gene qualified for, but the monthly benefit is not enough to cover his financial need to live in an assisted living facility. His only other income is a small Social Security check.

Gene moved into an assisted living facility last year, where he is so happy and has been thriving! However, because he has been living with a monthly deficit, ALL of his savings are now GONE. Gene's income is about $500 short of his monthly cost to live at the assisted living facility. He really could use some help, or he will have to leave and he will be experiencing homelessness! Gene will be 92 in October of 2024. Gene is a devout Christian and attends Sunday worship at Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Oak Island, NC, whenever he can get a friend to pick him up and take him.
