On June 2nd, my dad Genaro suffered a ruptured aneurysm and, after falling, sustained a cracked skull that hemorrhaged into a subdermal hematoma. He was rushed to Hoag Hospital, where he underwent two back-to-back emergency surgeries. During those hours, my family truly felt we might lose him—he had only a 3% chance to live. Against all odds, Genaro pulled through and is currently in critical condition, facing a high risk of stroke and the possibility of rerupturing two additional aneurysms that doctors discovered. He remains in the ICU and will likely be there for weeks to come.
My family has been incredibly supportive for myself, my siblings, and my mom. Genaro has severe damage to his frontal and temporal lobes, and we are taking things day by day. During rehabilitation, he has gone from being mostly unconscious to being able to write his name, tell us his birthday, and even communicate his needs. We still have a long way to go, but he’s making hopeful progress. While we try to continue moving forward, we feel the pressure of returning to “normal.”
My father's hospital bills continue to pile up, and I want to help alleviate some of that stress for my mom. Any and every contribution helps, even sharing can make a difference for our family. We love and appreciate everyone and will continue to update Genaro's progress.
