The Grove City High School Department of Music is known for their highly established ensembles throughout the state of Ohio and the United States. The program maintains a high level of rigor in all choirs, bands and orchestras consistently receiving Superior ratings at OMEA contests with five Class AA groups in the program and excellent entry level ensembles as well.

The grand piano that has been in use for concerts for these ensembles is in need of replacement. The instrument is old, does not hold intonation well, and looks very worn on the exterior. Yet it stands and is used in front of audiences at concerts. Recently the GCHS music department came to an agreement with Wittenberg University on the sale of their refurbished, stunning 1935 8' 11" Steinway Model D for $20,000. Unfortunately, Wittenberg University administration made the decision last fall that it would close its music school permanently as of this past June 2025. Wittenberg wanted to ensure that an institution such as GCHS would benefit from their Steinway which is how the offer came about. They are including a concert bench and piano cover in their price. The piano is completely refurbished and is currently selling for $85K + used. The instrument retails for $230-$260K new.

We plan to purchase this instrument over the next few weeks. We have received $12K towards the purchase through donations and grants. We would like to help offset the additional $8K expense to our booster organizations, if at all possible, with this GoFundMe. We are in desperate need of a new concert piano, and it is a dream come true, and once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire the same piano that is used onstage at prestigious venues around the country like Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA, and the Royal Albert Hall in London!! Our students would benefit greatly and this will be a huge upgrade for our department.
