Support Gavin's Recovery from Medical Complications
Donation protected
Hi everyone, we kindly ask for any support in helping Gavin with unexpected medical bills that have piled up after complications from a recent procedure.
In January 2020, Gavin was in an unfortunate snowboarding accident that resulted in damage to his C5/C6 disc and a fractured C5 vertebrae. Because the pandemic hit shortly after his accident, the road to neurosurgery was a long one. Ultimately he was able to have an artificial disc replacement/arthroplasty in June 2021. Though his surgery was successful, Gavin has experienced lingering nerve damage from the accident. The doctors were hopeful it would heal on its own. Three years post surgery and it’s still something that bothers him every day and limits the activities he’s able to do.
He went back to his neck surgeon in June to find out if there is any additional treatment he could undergo. To see what’s going on with his neck/spine, he went in for a Myelogram on June 24th, a diagnostic imaging test that uses contrast dye to examine the spinal canal by injecting the dye into the spine. There were risks involved in this procedure and unfortunately Gavin has been suffering a complication known as a CSF leak since then. An unbearable, lingering headache accompanied by nausea has been his biggest complaint and can only be remedied by lying down. He’s been in and out of the ER three times with no improvement. Finally on July 9th, his neurosurgeon ordered a blood patch to cure the symptoms of the CSF leak. He had to stay overnight for two nights at Mission Laguna Beach with an ambulance ride to/from Mission Hospital Radiology Dept. in Mission Viejo for the procedure. We are happy to share the blood patch was successful and Gavin can recover at home.
All these medical visits/treatments have created some unexpected medical costs for Gavin while he’s been off of work trying to recover. He has already missed over two weeks of work and will need to continue resting for another week to make sure no further complications arise. It would mean the world to us if anyone could help support Gavin while he focuses on getting back to living the stoked life! Anything is appreciated!
