Gavin Black is a close family friend who grew up playing hockey with my son and was his roommate in Wyoming. Hockey has always been a huge part of Gavin's life, and his passion for the sport has brought him friendships and unforgettable experiences. On Saturday, December 13, 2025, Gavin was playing with his team in Poland when a freak accident changed everything. He hit his head on the ice, suffering a significant concussion, a skull fracture, and some internal bleeding. The news was devastating for everyone who knows and loves Gavin.

His parents, Marcel and Marissa, rushed to Poland on exceptionally short notice, facing high travel costs just to be by his side. Gavin is slowly improving, but he is still hurting and missing his sister and his huge network of friends. The medical bills, travel expenses, and other needs are quickly adding up, and his family is doing everything they can to support him during this difficult time.

For anyone with a child in sports, you live with the feeling of 'what if something happens.' That fear is overwhelmed by the pride of seeing your son or daughter excel at something they truly love. When your child goes down, that fear pops back up and you feel sick. Usually, your child gets back up, shakes themselves off, and gets back into the game.
