Support Gavin Bartos in His Road to Recovery

Dear Friends:

I am a long time friend of Mike Bartos and have known Mike and his son Gavin for over 15 years. I am writing to you today to ask for your empathy, help and generosity toward Mike and

his son Gavin. Back on October 29, 2023 Gavin was shot in the back of his head. He sustained this horrific injury while trying to protect his girlfriend Liz who was pregnant with Gavin’s son.

Gavin never hesitated and sacrificed himself to keep them safe.

Gavin was rushed to the hospital where he was in critical condition as the bullet crashed through his cerebellum and continued to ricochet in his skull causing much additional damage. Gavin was barely alive and lay in a coma for months in the hospital. Mike however never gave up on Gavin and knew his son would battle to get better. I believe that even in a coma Gavin was determined to survive to be with Liz again and eventually their son.

About a month ago Gavin opened his eyes and came back to the world. He is severely injured and can’t walk, use his arms, hands or fingers. Gavin is going to have a very long and tough

road ahead of him in life, with unknown potential to ever get any better. He will have to carry on his life as a young father with these many challenges. The expenses will be extensive and the time dedicated to caregiving will be exhaustive. However, I know that no matter what Mike Bartos will be there with and for his son and his future grandson as well.

This is one of hardest letters I have ever written because as I write it I know that except for the “Grace of God”, this could have been me and my son. But it wasn’t, it was Mike and Gavin. I always ask myself why bad things happen to good people. I don’t have a good answer for that and that will be between Mike, Gavin and God. But I know one thing. When bad things happen to innocent people, it does give other people the chance to do something good and help. It willnot change what happened, but it can definitely help change what happens in the future for a father, a son and a grandson.
