Support Gary Sergeant Bill Fazekas

On February 7, 2022, Sgt. William Fazekas was shot in the line of duty while conducting a traffic stop. Sgt. Fazekas suffered two gunshots to his left shoulder, which destroyed the bones and muscle. Sgt Fazekas is a 32 year veteran of the Gary Police Department and is currently a Violent Crimes Investigator. Despite the massive trauma, Sgt. Fazekas stayed in the fight chasing off the suspect, who officers later caught. Sgt. Fazekas then began walking to the hospital after his vehicle was disabled and with no communication. Sgt. Fazekas was met by responding officers while losing over half his body's blood. Officers then rendered emergency aid which potentially saved his life with only minutes to spare. Sgt. Fazekas was stabilized and transported to Chicago, where he received emergency surgery and is now recovering. Sgt. Fazekas will be out of work for several months while he heals and recovers at home with his family and needs our support! With only three years left until retirement and the help of his family, Sgt. Fazekas has dedicated his life to public service. Since the incident, his wife has not left his side and has committed to ensuring her husband receives the best therapy and care for a speedy recovery. Thank you, Sgt.
