Support Gary Beltran's Urgent Medical Recovery

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

As many of you have and may not have heard by now of the situation, (my dad) Gary Beltran is dealing with. For those of you not aware, he and my mom (Jolee) were met with an unfortunate accident in 7.20.2024 while in Mexico that left him with severe and life threatening injuries. Given that they were outside of the country and Mexico’s lack of medical infrastructure, insurance was not accepted and the proper medical care was not available to him.

We are thankful for the help of McKesson Global security and International SOS acting quickly to facilitate Guarantee of Payment to ensure care while they awaited to be flown emergency medvac back to the states.

We had to move quickly to get him back into the US to save his life. They arrived 7.23.2024 by Medvac flight the injuries he is currently diagnosed with are:

Pulmonary contusions, clavicle fracture, broken collar bone, broken right shoulder blade, 12 rib fractures, a hemothorax (blood in the lungs)

He had a chest tube(s) placed surgically on 7.25.2024 and currently he is in the ICU, requiring high flow oxygen.

The following are a list of the expenses that were incurred in Mexico which was paid by McKesson (my moms -Jolee-employer) with the agreement that it must be paid back after returning to the US: $42,744.90 treatment at Hospital of Cancun $36,598.75 Medvac to the US which included 1 medical Doctor, 1 nurse, 1 paramedic and 2 pilots. Total amount to be reimbursed to McKesson by us is $79,343.65 (due to Mexico not taking medical insurance)

Given the severity of his injuries and the long recovery that is ahead of him he will not be able to work at least for the next 3 months or longer. We would not be asking for any help if we didn't see the need for it, but the reality is we need to be prepared for the long road ahead.

Since Gary (my dad) does not have paid time off due to his sole proprietorship of Keyz For Jesus - Music Lessons, We would appreciate and be grateful for anything anyone could help with during that time as we help him get back on his feet.

Below is what is ahead of him with regard to treatment of his injuries:

1. He will undergo what's called a vats procedure. The surgeon will insert a small tube called a thoracoscope to stabilize the clavicle fracture and some of the rib fractures to avoid any futher respiratory complications. The vats procedure will be done with an instrument which has a tiny video camera on the end, through a small incision between the ribs. The surgeon will use surgical tools inserted through the incisions to perform the procedure. This will be used to remove the blood from his lungs and any other area they need to clean out.

2. Rib plating, also known as surgical fixation, is a reconstructive surgery that stabilizes broken ribs with titanium plates and screws to reduce pain and deformity while they heal.

For the rib plating procedure, he will be put under general anesthesia and nerve blocking anesthesia will be administered during and after the procedure to help stabilize him with all the pain after the procedure.

The surgeon makes incision near the fractures to be realigned. The muscles covering the ribs are split. The fractured ribs are realigned and brought back together. The surgeon measures, cuts, and contours a titanium plate to match the shape of the rib. Screws are used to secure the plate to the bone on either side of the fracture. The incision sites are closed with sutures.

Rib plating is a common treatment for rib fractures, which are the most common traumatic thoracic injuries. It's especially useful for patients with multiple fractures, severe chest wall deformities, or flail chest, a life-threatening condition that occurs when part of the rib separates from the chest wall.

He will likely need to have additional surgeries after this one depending on what else arises after this procedure. This first surgery is to get him stabilized and in less pain.

Update from 7.26.2024
Due to complications he had to go back into the operating room for an emergency surgery due to severed artery. Being stabilized & will follow with more updates as soon as we get them.
