On Friday, 2/21/2025, my father in law, Garry Kinard was working on a shed and fell off its roof. An ambulance took him to Baptist in Columbus and they transferred him to UMMC in Jackson that night. As of 2/26/2025 he is still in the surgical ICU there.
He has broken ribs, fractures in his back, shattered his shoulder, several pelvic fractures, a few lacerations to his face and body, and many bruises inside and outside of his body. He has also had to have a lot of blood. On Sunday, 2/23 he had surgery to repair one side of his pelvis and on Monday 2/24 they did another surgery to repair the other side. As of today, 2/26, they are hoping to repair his shoulder in the next day or two. He will have to have a total shoulder replacement. He will be in the icu until the surgeries are over then a regular room for a probably couple weeks. Then he will have to go to a rehab facility. We do not know how long his recovery will take but we do know it will be months if not a year or more before he could even think about working.
Garry is one of the hardest working men I know and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He is self employed so as of Friday, has no income coming in. Vickie has been by his side since the accident but she works full time also and has had to take off from her job as she continues to care for him.
I’ve had so many people text or call and ask what they can do to help. That alone is such a blessing to have so many friends and family who care. The # 1 thing is pray. We know our Lord is the ultimate physician and is here with us through every day. Pray for him as he recovers and pray for Vickie as she is there by his side. Pray for the doctors as they decide treatment and as they treat him. Some have wanted to know how they can give so we decided to set this up for them. Right now they’re in Jackson and will be for the foreseeable future. If anyone would like to help, this would be greatly appreciated while Vickie stays there with him and just to help with some bills at home. We are also trying to make some arrangements for their house to be able to accommodate him before he gets back home.
I will try to update this page after he has his shoulder surgery. Thank you all for your words of encouragement and prayers the last few days!! They have meant so much to us!!
