This is my kind, sensitive, talented partner, Garrett Hipp. At age 4, Garrett underwent open-heart surgery to repair his aorta and a leaking valve in his heart. In the winter of last year, Garrett started experiencing worsening chest pains, and after collapsing twice, he spent a week in the hospital in March to find out his heart is failing. He was told without lifestyle change and medication, he would have less than 6 months to live. He has worked so hard to care for himself, change his life, and beaten all the odds. Garrett was diagnosed with systolic heart failure at 22 years old, which means the left side of his heart no longer functions at a normal rate. Most people pump blood from their hearts at a rate of around 60%. Garrett’s pumping rate has reduced to 5%, resulting in him having a pacemaker defibrillator implanted on October 16, 2024. Garrett is now unable to work a normal job, and while he has been consistently fighting to be granted disability pay, this is often a long battle with no hints as to when it will be won. Garrett’s roommate has been very understanding of his situation but is not able to pay his share of the rent.
Please consider donating if you are able, all proceeds will go to paying Garrett’s rent and keeping him in a safe and stable living situation.
Thank you for reading our story.
