Support garment workers basic needs during COVID19

With India in lockdown due to COVID-19, it has meant the country's many garment workers have been forced out of work, many left with no means to support themselves and their families during this time of crisis.

AIF is a small women-led garment manufacturing facility in Luknow, India where a team of skilled garment workers produces for small, emerging, and limited edition labels in Australia and elsewhere in the world.

AIF works in partnership with Zenana Women, their partner organisation in Australia. Employing women from the slums of Luknow, India, contributing to reducing their burden of poverty through stable employment. They aspire to the standards of fair trade, including fairly paid work, good working conditions, opportunities for education and training, and care for the environment.

They currently employ 7 women from the poorest communities, including embroiderers, some seamstresses, and stock control. There are 2 young women in admin and 3 male tailors.
For many of these women, their salaries make a significant addition to the families’ incomes and will be missed. The male tailors are the breadwinners for their families, and all members of the team are far from wealthy.
There are 12 members who are without their April salaries.

Currently, the poverty line sits at approximately 3.00AUD/ day, or $90 Aussie a month. For $100AUD you will be able to support one worker for one full month, a gift of enormous value in the lives of each of the team.

Any gift, no matter how big or small will be deeply appreciated by the AIF team.
We are hoping to raise the full amount of funds this week so as to be able to provide immediate assistance to cover the loss of income for the month of April.
Any excess funds will be donated elsewhere to support other garment workers who need support in meeting their basic needs during this time.

Thank you for partnering with us to support those who are most vulnerable in our industry at the moment.
