Update-Support Garik & Anahit: Keep Their Family Together

Donation protected
Today is Anahit's birthday! I met with her this morning to give her the first payment. What a wonderful birthday present! She said it's not just about the money. It's the feeling of support from so many people that makes the situation just a little bit more bearable. We are all humbled by the response!

Thank you for your donations and shares and prayers! Your response has been overwhelming! Anahit and the kids went to Georgia to visit Garik last Sunday. He is hanging in there, but it does look like he will be deported. Appealing would mean another 6-12 months in detention. As you can imagine, the conditions are pretty rough. There was an article in the Post and Courier on Oct 8. It tells the complete story if you're interested. Keep the support coming! They will continue to need our help with legal expenses, housing and daily needs until a resolution is found.

Garik and Anahit are a hardworking family in Charleston, SC, who have always done their best to build a safe and stable life. I first met them as their mortgage broker when they bought their home in 2023, and I’ve come to know them even better through my church community—Garik is the brother-in-law of the organist at my church. Their warmth and dedication to their family and community have always stood out to me.

A few months ago, Garik was detained in his own driveway in Charleston and sent to an ICE detention center in Georgia, despite being here legally on an asylum visa. He has no criminal record, has paid his taxes, and worked tirelessly as a self-employed electrician to support his family. The family has already spent thousands on legal fees, and now, with the threat of deportation looming, they are facing an uncertain future. Anahit, his wife, is still working in Charleston, but she cannot afford the mortgage and basic living expenses on her own.

The funds raised will go directly toward helping Garik and Anahit cover their mortgage payments, pay for ongoing legal representation, and manage essential living costs during this incredibly difficult time. I would appreciate your help so much. It is breaking my heart to watch them struggle, and I wish I could do more. Any support you can offer will make a real difference for this family as they fight to stay together and keep their home.
