Last fall Garet came back to rodeo with more determination and grit than we have ever witnessed in previous years. If you do not know my son his journey with bull riding started at only 4 years old when his step dad and friends threw him on a sheep and told him to hold tight. He started riding calves for NorCal Junior Rodeo Association at 7. He has been apart of California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) District 5, International Miniature Bull Riders (IMBA) and Ak Bucking Bulls. This year he placed 1st at Challenge of Champions in March, which is a competition of the top 3 (in their rodeo event) from the 9 rodeo districts in California. He placed second for the year , in high school bull riding, for district 5. At California Highschool Rodeo Finals in Bishop he placed 1st in the second round and was able to compete in the short go round, placing 4th overall and securing a spot at nationals in Rock Springs, Wyoming in less than a month. Only the top 4 riders (in each event) from all 50 states are invited to compete, so this a huge honor. To say we are proud is an understatement. With this being said this is an expensive endeavor. Hotel room stay for 9 nights, gas to drive there, food, and rodeo entry fees. We may live in Oakdale but Garet is representing Almador, Alpine, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Mariposa & Merced county through District 5 high school rodeo, not to mention the entire state of California. The last time a California cowboy took this title home was in 2014 and he was riding for an Oregon team. Garet has been blessed to learn from some of the best and he wants to make everyone proud. His dream is to take home that title. Garet says thank you to everyone who have supported him throughout the years and he is truly grateful and blessed.
