Who we are: Garet&Co is a non profit professional contemporary dance company based in CT. Garet&Co's mission is to create a safe, sustainable and uplifting space for dancers to train and perform at the highest level of contemporary dance. Garet&Co has created a home for contemporary dancers, where dancers can gain both training experience and paid work opportunities in a positive environment, while being supported as both dancers and humans.
Why we need your help: As we begin our new chapter in in Southern CT for Season 6, we have many new challenges ahead. We are working to reach a new community and rebuild our roots in a new location.
What your funds support: Garet&Co believes strongly in compensating artists, and is proud to be a company that pays all of its professional dancers for both rehearsals and performances. Garet&Co also provides two programs for high school and college students, in which students have financially accessible and career-advancing opportunities to train and perform with the company. Outside of opportunities for company members, Garet&Co offers a multitude of classes and performances that are open to the public throughout the entire year. Garet&Co is proud to be cultivating space for contemporary dance with every move we make.
Last season, we:
- Held 50 open classes and 2 intensives throughout the state. We provided more than $22,400 worth of subsidized classes to our company members. Each of these events also remained accessible to the public, and were filled with so many amazing dancers from the community.
- Paid our Pro Members a rate of $20/hr and $50/performance (increasing to $75/performance for Season 6) and our Principal Members a rate of $22/hr and $65/performance (increasing to $100/performance for Season 6). In total, we paid our professional dancers more than $23,000 for their work in Season 5.
- Performed 25 times, including 9 dance festivals, 6 curated shows, 5 self-produced shows, 4 Guest Artist performances, and 1 community performance at a senior home.
Among MANY other company happenings :)
THIS SEASON, WE ARE DETERMINED TO MAKE OUR WORK EVEN MORE MEANINGFUL.
Why our movement matters: Garet&Co’s choreographic work dissects emotions on the stage, dealing with themes of struggling mental health and the search for peace within chaos. Pulling from her own experiences first and then collaborating conceptually and in movement with the dancers, Garet hopes that her work gives audiences the opportunity to fully experience the joy, devastation, and catharsis of contemporary dance. Garet strives to create art that comes from a place of personal truth; work that is both guttural and beautiful. Garet&Co believes that art changes the world, and the company is passionately and actively working to be generators of light. Garet works to create safe and positive environments where art and humanity can be at the forefront.
