UPDATE UPDATE 6/17/25

Gambit had his cancerous tumor surgery on 6/12/25. First I want to say he's home and doing well. Very well actually as I write this on 6/17/25. However, during the surgery it became clear that we had to amputate his leg because the tumor was intertwined with his legs nerves and veins. This caused the bill to jump significantly, coming in just under $2,200. So we still need to ask for help to finish paying this vet bill. His recovery will require a two other vet visits that will just add to this bill. My guess is about $300 - $400, but time will tell. If you can help please DONATE. If you're unable to that's OK you can still help by sharing Gambit's story to as many people as you can. If you're following Gambit on Social Media please share and interact with his posts.

Thank You,

Please Help Save Gambit – Our Family Needs Him

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out today with a heavy heart because our beloved Gambit, my 10-year-old Australian Shepherd, my shadow and best friend, is facing a terrifying and urgent health crisis. A large, baseball-sized mass on his chest is not only causing him pain and making it difficult to walk, but our vet has now confirmed it is cancer. Without surgery, Gambit will tragically lose his leg or his life.

Despite this devastating news, Gambit’s incredible spirit continues to shine. He still tries to greet me with his favorite tug rope, chase after a ball with puppy-like hope, or gleefully destroy his newest stuffed toy. Knowing the pain he must be in, and the dire consequences of not getting treatment, makes this even more heartbreaking. This cancer is dimming the light in his eyes, day by day.

Our vet at Dundee Veterinary Clinic has confirmed the urgent need for surgery, with costs for everything involved estimated between $1,340 and $1,630. To ensure we can cover the transaction fees GoFundMe deducts and have a small safety net for anything unexpected during his recovery, we are setting our fundraising goal at $2,000.

Gambit is so much more than a pet; he's a cherished member of our family, and my connection with him runs incredibly deep. Many of you may not know, but Gambit is epileptic. When he was younger, his seizures became terrifyingly frequent and severe. Through every single episode, I held him close, sometimes for hours, whispering to him until the danger passed. That shared struggle, facing fear together, forged an unbreakable bond between the two of us. Thankfully, medication has kept him seizure-free for 5 precious years, and that deep connection is stronger than ever. He’s my survivor, my brave boy.

Asking for help like this is incredibly hard, but we find ourselves in a situation where we simply can't manage this cost alone. As Gambit's dad, I've been facing significant health challenges that have impacted our family's financial stability. For over two years, we've been navigating these difficulties, leaving our family finances stretched painfully thin.

It’s devastating to know Gambit needs this life-saving care to combat this cancer and prevent the loss of his leg or his life, and to be unable to provide it without help. He deserves every chance to run pain-free again, to enjoy his golden years, to simply be the happy dog we love so much. We just want to give him that chance.

Any amount you can offer brings us closer to saving him. Even $5 makes a difference. If donating isn’t possible, please consider sharing his story. Spreading the word is a powerful gift. Your support, in whatever form it takes, would mean more than words can ever express.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for reading our plea and for caring about Gambit. We promise to keep you updated.

With hope and heartfelt gratitude,

Michael Alexander II and Family
