On Saturday, November 22nd, Galen was involved in a hit-and-run accident while riding his Goldwing motorcycle home after his karaoke show at The Inn Between Pub. He was thrown off the road into a ditch along with his bike and was left for dead.
Fortunately, angels were watching over him. A patron from his show happened to come upon the accident and immediately stopped to help, calling 911.
Due to his severe injuries, Galen was transported to the Harborview Hospital Trauma Center. After hours of tests, scans, a blood transfusion, and extensive medication, the medical team was able to stabilize him. Once they confirmed that he had no head or spinal injuries, they turned their focus to the other critical areas of trauma.
Twenty-four hours later, he underwent surgery to repair a shattered pelvis. He also sustained additional injuries that could not be addressed surgically at that time.
He is so lucky to be alive — and even more fortunate to have escaped without spinal or head trauma.
As you can imagine, the road to recovery will be long. Galen will spend a minimum of three months in a wheelchair, unable to bear weight on his legs. Katie, along with his incredible tribe of friends and family, is stepping up to help manage his care and daily needs once he leaves the hospital.
However, the financial burden this situation places on both Galen and Katie is significant. Medical expenses, time away from work, and the long-term rehabilitation he’ll require all add up quickly.
Galen and Katie still have a mortgage to cover, along with all the other expenses it takes to support a family of five. Without Galen’s salary and his karaoke income, this becomes an especially heavy burden for them to bear. Any amount contributed will help lighten that weight and allow them to focus on healing rather than financial stress.
In terms of his mental health, Galen is doing remarkably well considering the circumstances. He wants to thank everyone for their well-wishes, love, and support. Visitors truly lift his spirits, and staying connected makes a world of difference. This is not going to be an easy journey for him, but the encouragement from friends and family helps him stay strong.
We will continue to share updates on Galen’s progress, so please stay tuned. Thank you all for the incredible love, support, and prayers. Galen is truly blessed — not only to have survived this accident, but to be surrounded by Katie, his friends, his family, and his entire community during this challenging time.
