Hello! My name is Gabriela and I am starting my own voiceover business!

My Story

For the past few years, I was living abroad in Seoul, South Korea and while I was there, I found a new love, something I thought I would never like: voiceover acting. It started with playing games with my friends on online servers where you create your own character and let the interactions with others guide your story. I had a fear of acting and improvisation, but I realized while playing and having fun with friends that is exactly what I was doing!!! I enjoyed it so much that I leaned more into improvising and creating cool story lines with different scenarios and characters. The more I did it, the more I realized I wanted to do this for a living. As I was planning to return home to the US and thinking what career path I will take next, I decided to pursue voiceover acting.

Why I Need Funding

I fell in love with VO acting while having fun, but the path to having a VO career is arduous and not as fun. In order to land a job, it involves a lot of learning skills and techniques, non-stop auditioning with no guarantee of landing a job, and a lot of marketing and networking.

There is also a huge financial investment. There are courses, workshops, and network events I want to attend that will help me hone my skills and get to know people in the industry. I need to upgrade my equipment, better mic plus all the accessories needed. I also need to improve the room I am using as a studio by adding materials that help to soundproof and reduce outside noise while recording. I also pay for my own website domain and hosting so I can showcase my work. On top of all that, many of the online services where you can find VO work have tiered subscription fees in order to audition (the more you pay, the more opportunities you have).

How I Will Use The Funds

First, I will use the funds to help pay off courses, equipment, and online services I have already bought. (~$1300)

Secondly, I will use it to buy a ticket to the biggest VO conference which is luckily located in Atlanta, GA. (VO Atlanta) ($700)

Lastly, I will use for future advancement like enrolling into workshops and courses to help improve my skills and gain new ones, buying other equipment that may be needed, enrolling into more online services to to find work, and paying for any other needs that might pop up as I go on this journey. ($500)

Voiceover Journey So Far

As mentioned before, I have already kickstarted pursuing a career in VO on my own but I need help in taking the next step to improve my craft. I've taken an intensive course at an Atlanta studio to learn about the industry. I was lucky to book an audiobook narration job one month after I completed the course! We are in the final stages of review for the audiobook and then it will be live!

I continue to look for opportunities to audition and I'm always learning. Watching videos about VO and editing, listening to podcasts, and reading books, articles, and blogs about VO and from prominent VO actors. Hopefully, I will have some more opportunities soon, whether it's more audiobooks, commercials, and anything else (the VO world is extensive!).
