On August 24th, I was admitted through the emergency department and stayed in the hospital for 12 days. During that time, I had another surgery and two additional interventions to control the infection, which was already very advanced and could have become dangerous. Thanks to the treatment and antibiotics, the doctors were able to stabilize me, although I had to use a drainage machine for several weeks. I couldn’t work for more than three months due to the pain and the long recovery process. For two and a half months, I had to attend weekly wound-care sessions and medical check-ups, and I am still undergoing this process until the wound fully closes.
My insurance refused to cover the case because it was considered pre-existing and I had only been with them for two months. The hospital tried to help by covering part of the costs, but between the failed surgery, the hospitalization, and the recovery expenses, the total has exceeded $22,000.
Now that I’ve been able to return to work, I’m slowly getting back on my feet. I still need at least three more months of care to prevent another infection and avoid going through all of this again.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and for any support or help sharing my story.
