Support Gabe's New Ride

Hi there. I’m April, and I want you to meet my friends Abby and Gabe.

Gabe is nearly 12-years old and like any 12-year-old, he likes video games and Lego and dislikes broccoli. He’s super funny, quick-witted, and charismatic. Gabe also lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a rare genetic disorder that causes muscle weakness and degeneration over time. There is not currently a cure for DMD, and the life expectancy is around age 25-30.

Gabe lives about 90% of his life in his power wheelchair. While it’s a sweet ride, it only gets him so far. What he and his mom, Abby, really need is a vehicle - a converted van that Gabe can wheel his chair right into, buckle up, and go. Abby is an amazing, hardworking single mom. While she can work with her insurance to cover the cost of the conversion of the van, insurance doesn’t cover a vehicle itself. Abby’s current vehicle will not work to be converted. A van is at least $25,000, and the conversion alone is nearly the same cost.

And that’s where you come in. YOU can make a difference to Abby and Gabe. Your gift can help ensure that by next Christmas, Abby has the vehicle she needs to transport Gabe to his daily activities (school, appointments, and even some power soccer). You can be part of the community working to make the years Gabe has on this planet the best years possible.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly toward the costs of acquiring and converting a van. Anything above and beyond that will go toward additional expenses related to Gabe’s care.
