Support Gabe Shaver's Rebuild After Park Wildfire Loss

My brother, Gabe Shaver, lives outside of Chico, CA, and lost everything to the Park Fire. Gabe is not one to ask for help, but I know many people want to help, and we greatly appreciate it!

The Park fire started as an arson incident at a park in Chico. It rapidly grew, and unfortunately, it is still growing. Gabe was on alert that he may have to evacuate. The evacuation order came a lot quicker than expected, and luckily, he was able to grab a few important papers and his dogs. Before he left, he checked on his buddy's dad, who lived down the road and persuaded him to evacuate. Then they headed down the mountain towards town and safety through terrifyingly black smoke and fire danger. Before he hit Cohasset, the road was closed, and firefighters instructed him to go to the fire station. Gabe chose to go back to his buddy's dad's house and wait it out there. They saved that house due to its location, use of sprinklers, and fire hoses. Luckily, there was a large swimming pool they could pull water from. Through a long firefight, they were able to save the house and keep themselves safe. Through all the trauma of this event, Gabe is safe, which is all that matters at the end of the day.

I am absolutely heartbroken for the loss of his beautiful home and everything he worked his whole life for. He did an amazing job in the past years on fire mitigation around his home and felt prepared if/when this happened, but this fire is a beast. Our dad flew out to help him navigate his next steps during this difficult time.
