Why this matters:
Behind every t-shirt and dress are workers with stories that rarely reach the public. I’m Erica Charles, an academic, researcher, and filmmaker using film as a form of highlighting social injustices.
Through my films, I turn years of research into human stories that cannot be ignored. My first animated documentary, The Stories We Wear, won Best Short Animation at Cannes Short Film Festival (2025) and has been screened internationally, sparking much-needed conversations about who really pays the price for fashion. This film was funded entirely by individual supporters like you.
Now, we know this topic is complex, so I’m developing the next chapter: a series of short research-driven educational films giving voice to factory owners, garment workers, and changemakers around the world.
Each new film begins with a conversation: a worker, a factory owner, or a consumer brave enough to speak. Your donation helps bring those voices to life through travel, interviews, translation, production, and post-production - transforming truth into awareness, and awareness into change.
How your donation helps:
Every contribution goes directly toward creating and sharing these films:
- Research, filming, and animation costs
- Sound design, editing, and post-production
- Community screenings, education packs, and film-festival outreach
- Subtitling and accessibility materials
The Impact
Your donation ensures these stories reach classrooms, conferences, and global audiences — helping to educate, move, and mobilise people to demand a fairer fashion system.
When we listen to the voices behind our clothes, real change begins.
