Support Funkatopia: Keep FUNKEDUP Online
Donation protected
Funkatopia is a well-recognized funk website that lives and breathes to support funk music and even outside of the funk genre. It's the creation of host Mr. Christopher that has stood the test of time for over 20 years. We just love good music. Funkatopia has interviewed the greats, including Bootsy Collins, Robert Kool Bell, Jesse Johnson, Brides of Funkenstein, Macy Gray, Thomas Dolby, and many, many others. And now, Funkatopia welcomes Prince's New Power Generation drummer Michael Bland as part of the official family, so the growth continues.
Part of that is supporting artists through an online radio station called FUNKEDUP, which is a 24/7 online station and app that is commercial-free. Nothing but music. Well, there's station identification every 3 or 4 songs, but you gotta do that.
The problem with playing music online is that you need to be legal. We can't support artists and be taking money from their pockets at the same time. We've carried ASCAP licensing to make sure we were legal, but major artists like Prince have to be covered under the Global Music Rights (GMR) licensing agency.
The problem is that there are retroactive costs and new costs required to get legal, and that cost is $1500. Half of which we'll see annually, but that's a worry for another time. For now, we need help to keep the radio station online. I (Mr. Christopher) have tried to keep costs away from the fans, but this cost is unavoidable.
We're trying to do the right thing, and I hope you can help.
