With broken hearts, we share the passing of Vasiliy Shapchenko — a devoted husband, wonderful father, and beloved family member. Vasiliy was the loving husband of my cousin, Katie Zhogan, and together they shared a life filled with love, resilience, and faith. He was also a devoted father, whose love and care for his family will never be forgotten.

After a courageous 2.5-year battle with stage 4 lung cancer, Vasiliy went to be with the Lord as the cancer spread to his brain and spinal cord in his final days. Despite unimaginable pain, he remained strong and full of grace throughout his fight.

In the time before his passing, Vasiliy gave his life to Christ. We rejoice in knowing that he is now with the Lord — whole, at peace, and forever in the presence of his Savior.

We are raising funds to support Katie and the family during this incredibly difficult time. The $20,000 goal will help cover:

    •    Funeral and memorial expenses

    •    Ongoing medical bills from more than two years of cancer treatment
