Support fund for baby James & family

Donation protected

The Hoorn twins James and Marcus were born 14 weeks early on April 22nd 2020 by emergency C section. They spent the first 5+ months of their lives in the hospital as they needed to be on oxygen support until beyond their expected due date. During those 5+ months they needed a multitude of other interventions including a transfer to the local children's hospital at four weeks old so Marcus could receive a coil for his heart. This all happened during the pandemic making things that much more challenging for the family. After a long journey to get the boys healthy enough to come home, things seemed to be going well with both of them until recently.

On Monday little James was taken to the hospital to check out a lump that had been growing near his eye for the past week. He was taken in for an MRI and immediately admitted. He has since been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a form of cancer that develops from immature nerve cells and specifically affects young children. Along with an orbital tumour an MRI also found a cancer mass above one kidney and cancer cells in the liver and in a couple bones. The treatment he needs will be extensive and drawn out over the next 18 months. On Wednesday he had a medicine port put in his chest to receive chemotherapy which he was given his first of dose of on Friday. Over the next 8 months the routine will be one week in the hospital to receive chemo followed by two weeks at home to recover. In 8 months he will have surgery followed by 4 more months of chemotherapy, then he will have 2 rounds of chemotherapy at 6 months apart.

The chemotherapy will leave James with basically no immune system so Kyle and Jessica will have to be extra careful and stay pretty isolated to keep him safe. Since we can't be there in person to support them through this difficult time, lets help them financially to get through this. There will be many costs that come up over the next 18 months including medical treatment that isn't covered by their insurance, help with childcare, flying family in for support, food, time off work etc. that we can help with.

James has been a champion so far and still managing to crack smiles through all of this. He's had his mom and dad close by at all times which I'm sure makes a world of difference for him .

Thank you to everyone for your ongoing love and support of the Hoorn twins along with their mom and dad!
