With a weary heart, we ask for some help today.

Those of you who know Frida know she is a kind, generous, loving, spunky, and tender little dog with a huge heart. I got Frida at the absolute lowest time of my life, and her love and presence is what helped me get out of bed again and face life again. I owe her the world, she has been my support, my friend, my baby for the last 10 and a half years.

Last Summer, Fridita got sick suddenly. Her body began to release copious amounts of blood. We took her to her vet immediately, where they thought it was pancreatitis (common in Schnauzers) and sent us home with antibiotics. However, as the days passed, she seemed worse and worse so we took her back to the vet. At that point, the situation was dire, she was anemic with extremely low platelets, we were rushed to the ER. She had 3 paws out the door at this point.

She stayed in the ER for 7 whole days. She had to receive two blood transfusions, 1 platelet transfusion, 1 endoscopy, and round the clock medicine and care. We visited her every single day. Somehow, through her strength and that of the doctors (who were all obsessed with her), she recovered. At that point they believed she had eaten something that had wrecked her stomach, as she had massive ulcers throughout her tummy This entire hospital and vet visit took us down $24k. We had just finally finished paying off all our credit cards and then this happened, but at least we had some way to pay for her to get treatment, despite it being an enormous amount of debt.

Last month, we finished paying down 1/3rd of the debt from those days. We cheered and celebrated, it was a big step. Then, last Monday, she began to have the same symptoms as before. The same tarry blood began to come out. We freaked out, took her to the vet. After a day of checkups and medicine, her platelets and blood started dropping quickly again, we were rushed once again to the ER. Frida has been there 4 days now. They believe she has Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia, a condition where her immune system attacks her own platelets. The first goal is to stabilize her, currently her platelets are at 10k when dogs need to be at 150k-500k. She is at risk of spontaneous bleeding at any moment. She has gotten a blood transfusion so far, thankfully we caught it quick enough this time where her blood count numbers are slowly going up, and she seems in good spirits.

The cost of the new treatment so far is $11k, and we will need to do many follow-ups and purchase more medicine as she recovers. She will need medicine for the rest of her life, and we will have to figure out a treatment. If we’re honest, the cost of this is unreal. Last time we at least had open credit cards to use. This time we only had a small one available, the one we finished paying down. We’re up to our necks in debt, we’re still paying off her old medical costs. And we have to pay for more treatment still.

We would like to request some help from the community. Frida is a treasure in this world, a loving and kind being. All my friends, even those who initially did not like dogs, comment on how healing spending time with her can be. She has been a bright light to those who need her. I want to be able to support her recovery, both in the hospital and moving forward. She’s a small dog, I know she has many many more years left to enjoy life. I owe it to her.

Any help that we receive will go directly to paying for her treatment, past and current.

We appreciate and thank you all for any support we receive. If you are unable to donate, please help by sharing this page with others. I will send many many Frida photos as updates as thank you as well.

TL;DR: Little dog is very sick, and we need help to make sure she recovers.
