Hi community. I’m taking a very vulnerable step in asking for financial help for gender-affirming care and therapy. As a queer trans woman, musician, and recent graduate, I'm at a place where I'm trying to build stability after completing my Master’s degree. While I’m super proud of what I’ve accomplished, the past year has been incredibly difficult for many reasons.
After finishing grad school, I’ve struggled to find steady, sustainable employment in a competitive and often inequitable job market. As many of us know, trans folks face additional barriers to employment, from bias in hiring practices to unstable workplace conditions. This instability makes it even harder to access the healthcare we need.
Unless you've lived under a rock your whole life, you know that U.S. healthcare is already expensive and difficult to navigate. For trans people, essential gender-affirming care is often excluded from insurance or placed behind endless bureaucracy. Furthermore, the current administration is making it even harder for folks like me to access vital care. This is why I’m seeking support to cover two forms of care that are critical to my well-being:
- Laser hair removal, which is medically necessary for many trans women but often denied or considered “cosmetic” by insurance. Several sessions are required to achieve lasting results, and the costs add up quickly.
- Therapy, which is essential for me as I navigate stress, healing, and the challenges of this transition period in my life. Six months of consistent therapy would help me find grounding and stability while I continue searching for work.
I’m asking for $7,500, which would cover:
- Multiple sessions of laser hair removal
- Six months of therapy with a licensed professional
- Any associated costs that come up in this process
This type of care is not a luxury. It’s about safety, dignity, and the ability to move through the world more authentically and confidently as myself. Anything helps, whether it’s $5 or $50, and even if you can’t donate, sharing this Gofundme with your community makes a huge difference.
I believe deeply in building communities where care is not conditional on wealth or employment. Until we achieve that, I’m turning to community for support. Thank you for reading, for being part of my life, and for helping me access the care I deserve.
