Support Freyja's Urgent Medical Need

Hi,

We come to you today with a plea for help for two people very dear to us, our friends Steven and Nina, and their beautiful daughter, Freyja. Freyja is an 8 year old a lover of animals, a budding pianist, and her favorite pastime is to play with the dogs, cats, and chickens in her neighborhood.

Freyja has been suffering for over two years from chronic inflammation of her adenoids, which has impeded her speech, hearing, and ability to sleep normally. She has been seen by specialists at Kapi’olani Women and Children’s Hospital in Honolulu, where she was referred for surgery last year in 2023. However, insurance denied the claim and the surgery was halted. In June 2024, Freyja was taken to the Emergency Room twice at the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, where she was urgently scheduled for surgery again, this time being referred up to the Chief of ENT at Children’s National, Dr. Preciado. Surgery has been scheduled for Monday, July 8th at Children’s National Hospital. However, despite the ENT specialists helping craft an appeal to the insurance company, once again Freyja’s insurance has refused to pay for the procedure.

Upon consultation with the ENT surgeon in Washington and ENT surgeon back in Honolulu, Steven and Nina have decided to end their daughter’s prolonged suffering and move forward with the urgent surgery no matter what. They will be paying out of pocket for the procedure, an unexpected expense, right before Freyja returns to school, so she will have the required time to recover before school starts.

We humbly ask for your support for Freyja, Steven and Nina.

Your generous contribution can make a huge difference in providing the needed care for Freyja. Steven and Nina have applied for hardship financial aid and have been given a good faith estimate of $20,000 for the surgery from the hospital. Funds received will cover the procedure, medication, and travel expenses for appointments/treatments. Every dollar will be used to cover the medical treatments and provide much needed support to Steven and Nina at this time of unexpected difficulty.
