Our beautiful, loving, and cuddly family dog, Freya, means everything to us.
She is only 9 months old. She is not just a pet—she is a huge part of our family. We have three young children, all under the age of seven, who love her dearly and have grown up with her as their companion, best friend, and source of comfort every single day.
Freya has always been deeply cared for—we have never missed a vet appointment and have kept up with all of her vaccinations, as well as flea, tick, and worm prevention. We brought her into our home fully committed to giving her the best life possible.
Since we first brought Freya home from the breeder, we noticed she was urinating frequently, having accidents, and drinking excessive amounts of water. At the time, we were told she would grow out of it, but unfortunately, her symptoms have only worsened. This led us to pursue further testing with our veterinarian.
After recent blood work, urine testing, and consultations, we were given devastating news. There are two possible causes for what’s happening with Freya’s kidneys. One possibility is Lyme disease, but this is considered highly unlikely since she isn’t showing any of the other typical symptoms.
The more likely diagnosis is that Freya was born with poorly developed kidneys. If this is the case, it is a condition that cannot be cured or managed long-term. We were told that dogs with this condition typically do not live beyond 13 months, no matter what treatment is attempted.
We are absolutely heartbroken—but we are not ready to give up without answers.
Freya urgently needs further testing, including another urine test, additional blood work, and an ultrasound to confirm whether her condition is terminal. In the meantime, she requires medication in case Lyme disease is still a possibility, as well as supportive care to keep her comfortable.
Due to unforeseen pregnancy complications, I am currently unable to work and am on EI, which has made it extremely difficult to keep up with the growing cost of her medical care.
We are asking for any support to help us cover the cost of these tests and treatments, so we can do everything possible for our girl—whether that means fighting for more time or ensuring she is comfortable and surrounded by love.
We are holding onto hope, but we need answers. Thank you so much to anyone who is able to help or even share Freya’s story. ❤️
