September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Little did we know that our Freya would join the club. It's a club no parent wants their child to join. On Wednesday, September 25th, 2024, Freya was admitted to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago, and after testing, she was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Freya's treatment has a hopeful outlook and we are eager to start moving in that direction to help her beat this with the help of her excellent care team. This is not only a treatable cancer, but a curable one, and we have every intention of seeing Freya cured. This experience has been humbling, and we know we'll need you all in order to see Freya and our entire family through this rough and emotional journey. Even more humbling, so many of you in our wonderful and supportive community have already reached out and asked how you can help.
Our family is still adapting to our new reality. Part of that process is figuring out what we need, and how people can help. We know our needs will be great, so while we figure out the granular day-to-day needs, we wanted to start a GoFundMe for Freya's overall wellbeing and care. Funds that are generously donated here will be used for Freya's care costs, as well as supportive resources for her siblings Winter (age 8) and Miles (age 3).
Having a child with cancer is harrowing, and Freya's treatment will be long and difficult. But the outpouring of love and support we've already received has helped reassure us that we can get through this, and that Freya will be healthy again.
Thank you for your generosity, even if it's only to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Melissa, James, Winter, Freya and Miles
