Free, my beloved German Shepherd, recently faced a fight for his life. What first appeared seemingly minor quickly turned grave when Saturday, November 9th, I woke up to him unable to walk. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where they determined he was fighting a serious infection. Free was admitted to the hospital, where he remained under 24/7 care for 6 days. Watching my sweet boy, usually so full of joy and excitement, battle this illness has been one of the hardest experiences of my life. But, the same way he has been with me through graduating high school, lock-down, and recently graduating college, I had to be there for him in his moment of need and do anything that I could to help him get better.

The incredible team at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates worked tirelessly to stabilize and treat him, and I'm relieved to share that Free has been allowed to return home to try and continue to heal. However, the intensive care, medications, and specialized treatments have resulted in overwhelming medical bills.

As anyone who knows me knows, I hate to ask for help. I would shoulder everything by myself if it was possible. Unfortunately, this time it is not, coming right on the heels of another emergency surgery for bloat in June, just days after Free's 8th birthday. That showed me just how much of a fighter Free was, and solidified my need to give him the best chance possible at getting better. I'm reaching out for support to help cover the costs of his treatment, as well as ongoing care as we ensure this infection is fully cleared.
