Help an 18-year-old Welsh athlete represent Wales on the international stage.
Every athlete dreams of wearing their country’s colours.
For Freddie Walsh, that dream has become a reality.
At just 18 years old, Freddie has been selected to represent Wales at the 2026 Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Winnipeg, Canada. It is an incredible honour and the result of years of dedication, discipline and determination.
This isn’t a journey that began overnight. It has been built through thousands of hours of training, early mornings, late evenings, sacrifices and an unwavering commitment to becoming the very best he can be.
Along the way Freddie has proudly represented both Wales and Great Britain, broken Welsh records and established himself as one of the country’s leading Sub-Junior powerlifters. Now he has the opportunity to compete against some of the strongest athletes from across the Commonwealth while proudly wearing the Welsh vest.
More than a sporting achievement
This journey is about far more than lifting weights.
It is about resilience when things don’t go to plan.
Discipline when motivation fades.
Humility in success.
Respect for others.
And proving that young people from our local communities can achieve incredible things when they are prepared to work hard and never give up.
We hope Freddie’s story encourages other young people to believe in themselves, embrace opportunities and understand that extraordinary achievements often begin with ordinary people willing to put in extraordinary effort.
Why we need your support
Unlike many elite sports, international powerlifting receives very little financial support.
Athletes and their families are responsible for funding the majority of the costs involved in representing their country, including:
✈️ International flights to Canada
Accommodation during the championships
️ Competition entry and anti-doping fees
Nutrition and competition preparation
Local travel and essential expenses
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps bring Freddie one step closer to stepping onto the Commonwealth platform wearing the Welsh vest.
Become Part of the Journey
This campaign is about much more than fundraising.
It’s about building a community around a young athlete who is proudly representing Wales and inspiring others along the way.
Over the coming months we’ll share every stage of the journey, including:
• Training and preparation
• Behind-the-scenes updates
• Team Wales announcements
• Travel to Canada
• Competition day
• The highs, the challenges and everything in between
Our hope is that everyone who supports Freddie feels part of this journey and celebrates every milestone with him.
