Support Frank's Medical Journey

Hi, my name is Jordan and I’m trying to raise funds for my dog Frank’s upcoming vet bills. Frank is a 10 year old chihuahua mix that I rescued in 2022 with the help of his amazing foster agency who saved him from a California shelter’s euthanasia list! He’s a spunky, sweet, amazing little guy and he’s been a phenomenal first dog (first dog of my adulthood). He likes chasing squirrels, snuggling, and coming to work at a local pet store with me.

In March 2024 he started having unusual GI (tummy) issues that wouldn’t quit so we made a visit to Heart & Soul urgent care here in Portland OR. They took bloodwork and did a quick XRAY of his belly and found that his platelets in his blood were low but that more info was needed to find out what was wrong. His GI issues resolved later that month after adjusting his diet, but then he started drinking a ton of water and peeing waaaaay more than he should for a little 15lb chi. We took him to our amazing vet (Brooklyn Yard) and they compared his bloodwork from Dec 2023 to March 2024 and found that his platelet count had significantly decreased. This could be a symptom of many things, one being an immune disorder called ITP, which could be a primary problem or a secondary illness accompanied by something like a tumor or cancer. We’re really hoping it’s something painless and simple (ish) to fix. My partner tragically lost his dog to lymphoma 2 years ago and I just lost my childhood dog that I spent 13 years with so the thought of Frank going through something major is scary and emotional for us both. We’re hoping to raise money to cover his upcoming vet expenses. He is scheduled in mid June to undergo a sedated procedure in which he’ll receive an ultrasound of his belly, an X-ray of his heart, additional bloodwork, and potential aspiration of any growths if they find anything. He’s incredibly anxious and upset while being handled at the vet hence the sedation cost.

I’ve attached a photo of that estimate from his vet. The range is large and while we’re prepared to pay basically all of high range price, we’re uneasy about potential additional procedures and meds he will very likely need. My partner and I are both part of the Portland pet care community and industry and while we have the immense privilege of well paying pet retail jobs and access to great products, we will definitely feel this financial blow. We’re saving up to move in September and these bills will deplete a large chunk of our savings. We’re insuring Frank before this procedure but in case it doesn’t activate in time we’d really love financial assurance to do anything we need for our sweet baby guy.

this fundraiser amount will cover future procedures (I will provide updates as they come), medications, and sedation needed for any procedures that require imaging or injections as Frank has a hard time tolerating these unless sedated. Sedation costs roughly $145 on top of the basic exam fees. Any other remaining donation amounts that do not go towards medical treatment will go directly to his care via food, insurance payments, and/or supplements to help him feel his best.
