Support Frank's Medical Journey

Donation protected

Hello, Hi, my name is Sarah and I'm hoping to raise funds for my dog Frank's medical bills. Let me preface this by saying that asking for help is very difficult for me. Unfortunately, this year has thrown far more financial curveballs than I could have anticipated.

Enter Frank, the best boy this side of the Mississippi. He was adopted from the Animal Rescue Foundation in Beacon, NY, in December 2013 and has been my best friend every day since. Over the years he has dealt with minor health issues, but has overcome everything so far with grace and an amazing attitude. He started this year with a new limp in one of his back legs that was making walks difficult for him. We started going to the vet to address the limp and pain and eventually, on a Tuesday evening in early April, the vet called to tell us that he has bone cancer, osteosarcoma, in his lame leg. The next morning, he went in for amputation.

The following weeks were rough. Our days consisted of slow healing, constant supervision, lots of cuddles, and progress every day. As hard as things were on his body, his attitude has been incredible. While learning what his new normal looks like, he learned to ask for help when going up stairs or hopping on the couch.

Fast forward to the end of June when we were finally able to get him in to see the oncologist at Guardian Veterinary Specialists. Imaging and blood work were done, and chemo started that very first visit. Since then, we have been back every 3 weeks since June 25th to run bloodwork and receive chemotherapy.

As of this writing, he has 1 more dose of chemo left to go, and we just found out that he has hyperparathyroidism. This means that his parathyroid gland is not properly regulating the calcium in his body, which can lead to kidney damage. Hyperparathyroidism is usually due to a tumor. (Benign or not, the treatment is to remove the parathyroid.) That being said, we are looking at finishing the chemotherapy and then doing imaging to determine the location and/or severity of the parathyroid issue. Despite all of this, his prognosis is GOOD!

This is where things get hard for me personally. I strongly believe in personal responsibility, and part of that is taking care of what's yours and not taking on more than you can chew. I say all of this just to say this year has been far more expensive than I could have been prepared for. My target amount is a gross underestimation of all of his bills this year but could help with this unforeseen next surgery coming up and may be able to go towards what we already owe. All funds will go directly to pay for new vet bills and existing $11,000 CareCredit balance.

Please consider donating or sharing Frank's story on social media. Any and all help is appreciated more than I can express.

To know Frank is to love Frank.

With love and pets,

Sarah
