Hi everyone, my fiancée, Frankie, is facing a sudden and severe case of prolific diabetic retinopathy in both of her eyes. In just a few weeks, what started as a few floaters turned into major vision loss—pinhole vision on the right, heavy blurriness on the left, loss of depth perception, and disappearing peripheral vision. Scans revealed retinal detachment in both eyes with large amounts of scar tissue surrounding the retinas. Since then, we’ve met with multiple specialists, gone through laser treatment and extensive imaging, and most recently started eye injections as we prepare for what will likely be retinal surgery on December 23rd.

Frankie is 26 and has lived with Type 1 diabetes since she was 2. After pushing through years of burnout, she’s made huge strides in her health - bringing her A1C down to 5.5 and having her diabetes managed with a CGM and pump. She’s a kind, funny, caring person and an active part of the women’s competitive Call of Duty community, and this rapid change in her vision has been a huge adjustment for us both. Because she can’t drive and each appointment is an all-day process that requires both of us to miss work, we’ve created this GoFundMe to help cover her $2,266 surgery deductible and some of the practical day-to-day costs during this time.
