3 Month Update - Franks Stroke Recovery

A message from Koji, Frank's husband -

His vision was suddenly gone. The doctor discovered plaque in his heart. A piece of plaque had traveled into his bloodstream to the back right side of his head and caused a blockage there. Then the stroke happened.

In the last couple of months Frank has regained some vision. But still one eye is 90% blind. The other eye is 25% blind. We were hoping his vision would come back almost fully but now we are realizing the blindness will be permanent.

The stroke in the back right of his head has caused weakness in the left leg and because of this, his balance is all messed up. Simple movements like getting up from a chair, walking up and down staircases, and even walking down the street are not simple any more. Frank has been going through quite a difficult time physically and emotionally.

And yet, Frank has remained optimistic every day that he will get stronger. With all things considered he reminds himself “It could’ve been much worse.” We are lucky Frank can still talk and make all the people around him smile and laugh. Something he is naturally so good at.

There have been a few scary incidents the past several weeks. Once he fell on the ground on the street outside and banged up his arms and legs. Twice he has fallen in his apartment, and had to wait on the floor for help to arrive. Now friends and neighborhood family have been helping Frank still get outside most days because that is what he loves the most.

Of course, I can be with him and help him every day. But of course, when I have projects and jobs to work I am not comfortable leaving him alone. I am a self employed painting contractor. I have ended up turning down jobs recently to focus on helping Frank get stronger. This has been causing financial insecurity, on top of medical bills, doctors visits, new equipment like a good quality walker, and other expenses we have made to make Frank the most comfortable and that have allowed him to go outside.

Anything you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated in helping Frank recover and allowing us some financial security.
