Support Francisco's Funeral and Homegoing

To those who don’t know how this all began, please scroll down and you will read all about how our ordeal began. Over the past 3 weeks we have had a severe turn for the worse with Francisco’s health. We had to return to the hospital on April 30 for 6 days and then after discharge, we returned on this past Thursday the 16th. The infection in his brain is progressing rapidly and he has lost the ability to speak, swallow and now has seizures on his right leg. Our treatment of steroids is not working and for this diagnosis, Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML), there is no other treatment options. The first part of that diagnosis, Progressive, is now accelerating faster. In consultation with him before he lost his ability to speak, and his doctors, we are now at home providing Pallative, or Hospice care. He did not want to pass away in the hospital or a nursing home. So, he will be surrounded by his loved ones. Our priorities have changed and we are preparing for our next step together. Francisco is originally from Mexico and has a number of family there still. At the conclusion of our current situation, I will be sending him home.

I know that you may have already donated, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for that. If you have not yet, please do, and help me send the man I love more in the world home to God and his country.

Hello everyone. I’m Shalamar Bernstein and I’m here to let you all know about my husband and all around great man, Francisco Garduño.

This past Monday, April 15th we ended up in the emergency room after noticing some numbness and drooping on the left side of his face and body. After an X-ray, CT scan and MRI, the doctors determined that he had a stroke. He was admitted and kept overnight for a couple of days for observation and was then discharged. They were some of the scariest moments of our life.

The doctors did say that they did not see any permanent damage and that he would make a full recovery with some physical therapy and occupational therapy. That was a blessing and relief to hear.

If you didn’t know, Francisco is a hairstylist and barber by trade, and a great one at that. However, for the next 4-6 weeks he will be out of commission. That does leave us with just one income for some time and as we all know, the bills still keep coming.

I have started this go fund me to help us get through this challenging time and as my therapist says, we do live in a community. Francisco is definitely the type to be very independent and not want to ask for help, but this is quite the challenging situation.

Francisco and I will have been married for 7 years on May 21st, and I will never forget the part when our officiant says, “For richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, for better or worse…” We have always been there for each other, and that will never change.

Donations here will be used to pay his medical and regular bills. Any bit helps and thank you all so very much for your well wishes, prayers, love and support.
