Francisca (France - or “Francie,” as our toddlers call her) has been part of our families since 2022. She has cared for our children as if they were her own. A wonderful cook, she has introduced us to so many delicious Belizean dishes (dukunu is a favorite!), even preparing trays of chicken, rice, and beans for our son’s first birthday party. She has a very big family but treats everyone as if they are part of it. Francisca has infused our home with warmth, care, and laughter, and we are endlessly grateful for her presence in our lives.

Her husband, Leonardo (Nardo), has become a fixture in our families as well - stopping by to say hello when picking up France or offering to help with projects around the house. Together, France and Nardo have been gradually building a home in Belize with great care, dreaming of retiring there one day.

On September 8, Nardo suffered a massive stroke and underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain. Thankfully, his movement, speech, and memory seem intact, but doctors are still running tests to understand what caused this frightening event. This crisis has thrown a major curveball into their plans and dreams. They are now facing enormous uncertainty around Nardo’s health, as well as the financial burdens that come with medical care, lost wages, and the stress of recovery.

We want to ask our friends and community to help us show up for France the way she has shown up for us. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward Nardo’s critical care and the family’s needs during this difficult time. Together, we can give them a little peace of mind in the midst of so much fear and uncertainty.
