I am reaching out for your help in supporting my host family in Chile, the Bernal family, who have been a second family to me since I stayed with them in 2018. Their daughter, Francisca—my (host) sister—has been battling a mysterious and debilitating medical condition since birth. It’s affected her physical, mental, and cognitive abilities and well-being, and she’s spent her the majority of her life receiving medical care and special education services. Despite countless tests and treatments, doctors still haven’t been able to find a cure. Francisca has now been in the hospital for almost two years, in the only hospital that can treat her, which is almost two hours from her family's home. Her family is and has been facing a heartbreaking reality: in Chile, insurance doesn’t come close to covering the cost of the care she needs, and they’re now having to sell their home to keep going. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a world of difference for Francisca and my host family as they continue to fight for her health. All donations will be sent directly to them in Chile.
