In October 2025, I received a diagnosis of DCIS Stage 0 high grade cancer in my left breast. The news was overwhelming and completely unexpected, and since then, my life has been a whirlwind of doctor’s appointments, research, and difficult decisions. After multiple consultations with plastic surgeons, I decided that for the long run, a bilateral DIEP APEX FLAP surgery would be the best option for me. My surgery is scheduled for January 20th—a major procedure that marks the next step in my treatment and recovery journey.

I am grateful that this was caught very early on. I want to emphasize how crucial it is to get annual mammograms. Because I went for my yearly screening, my cancer was caught very early during my mammogram in October. Early detection has made a significant difference in my treatment options and outlook. I encourage every woman to make annual examinations a priority—early detection truly saves lives.

As I prepare for this surgery and the months of healing ahead, I am facing a number of medical expenses that aren’t fully covered by insurance. These include surgery-related costs, follow-up care, specialist visits, and the ongoing out-of-pocket bills that add up quickly. The financial burden is significant, and it’s a challenge to manage these costs while also focusing on my health and well-being.
