My son and I went to go fishing Friday, May 16th and instead l, I nearly stepped on an injured and dying cat who was being eaten alive by maggots! Pretty well immediately threw it in the car and brought it home for water , food and care. Myself and a dear friend removed at least 100 maggots from on him and in him, bathed him, dried him and started meds. Turns out he was microchipped! I found out he was a 9 year old Mainecoon mix named Fox, (my daughter is OBSESSED with all things Fox) & he shares a birthday with her! Also, fox’s last name is my son’s middle name?!? After several days of searching, Blue Ridge Humane Society made contact with his former owners who claimed to have rehomed the cat (to an unnamed someone sometime) and wanted nothing to do with any of it. Fox improved by leaps and bounds the first couple days. Then he started to fall ill again and I thought I might lose him yesterday and the day before. He had a hidden abcess. Thankfully, he’d started antibiotics & it had ruptured on its own and has now been added to his wound care routine. He’s been super particular and needy about anything and everything and has required really intensive care, prayers and good luck to get this far. I really think it would be best for Fox if he could live out the winter season of his life with love and comfort right here where he’s landed. That said. I know he would likely benefit from a proper veterinary visit with some bloodwork, diagnostics and whatnot but that is not something I have the financial resources to do. With my home virtually at no vacancy with my current rescues and my children it’s just not feasible, Really hoping that maybe enough folks have a little extra $ and a caring enough heart to help me help sweet old Fox live his best life now?
