Hi there, my name is Symira. I work hand-in-hand with my husband, running an at-home foster for strays in our area to take in, treat, get fixed, and adopt out to well vetted homes. Inspired by my very first rescue- my domestic longhair male Sprout, who came from a hoarding house, I knew I had a passion for helping animals in need.
We have brought in many cats, and our foster currently houses 30 cats total. 13 kittens, 3 junior cats, several adult cats. We work within the Lakeland and Mulberry area, responding to calls of cats found on people's property who wish to call Animal Control.
We've been responding to your calls but due to lack of funding, we can't continue to accept more strays. We wish we could.
We work to save cats within the area, but recently it has been very expensive for us to maintain our foster. To fix all the cats, it will be $65 per cat ($50 for the actual spay/neuter, $15 per cat for their mandatory rabies vaccinations to get fixed).
Most of the expenses incurred have been covered by us, but we aren't sure how much longer we will be able to afford the care the cats desperately need.
One of the litters we took in are very sick. We had one of the 6 kittens pass away recently before we could even see any signs of sickness. Now, the 5 siblings are still alive but on several life-saving medications.
We have spent $490 3 days ago for a URI panel, a fecal panel, ringworm panel. We have been administering Clavamox as well. Yesterday was $170 at the vet for the other 2 siblings we took in to be seen- who had a skin scrape also done. The litter came back positive for scabies.
Today, we picked up Revolution from the vet for the 5 kittens which costed us another $123 because we needed atleast 5 doses for each cat to treat their skin. They have been on antibiotics for their eyes, twice a day, need to be bathed in medicinal shampoo twice a week too.
We have been using probiotics in their food to help them put on more weight to combat their lethargy, with soft kitten food. We also have been trying to give them bits of formula when they allow.
Between fixing all the cats at the foster, vet bills, it has been difficult on us as we also have our own expenses aside from the cats.
We are asking the community for help, if anybody would like to donate to help the cats at the foster get the care they need.
I have went ahead and attached photos of our foster cats, the first photo being 3 of the cats from the sick litter, and the rest were cats I was able to heal as well with their progress pics. We love what we do- and we don't want to stop helping the stray population in need from sickness or being in the wrong hands.
Please, if anybody is able to, we would greatly appreciate any and all help. Donations in the form of cat supplies or money to go towards vet costs/spays/neuters/vaccines are widely appreciated. I can also attach vet invoices with what we have paid this past month on vet bills.
Thank you so much in advance. From our family to yours.
