Hello, my name is Larissa or more commonly known by Forrest and Christie Halls's daughter. There's been a lot going on lately that needs to be shared.
In May of 2024, my father went to the doctor to address some frustrating symptoms of swollen lymph nodes and voice changes. After some lab work and imaging, my dad received a life changing diagnosis. The six letter cuss word - cancer.
The next step was a biopsy, which confirmed the diagnosis of Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma. To break it down, it's a common variation of skin cancer that has spread to my dad's lymph nodes in his neck, his tongue, and his epiglottis (the flap that covers your windpipe).
My dad is determined to kick cancer's a**, but it is going to be a long, hard road. The treatment plan includes aggressive chemotherapy and radiation for 7-8 weeks. A port is required for chemo and with that comes a weight restriction of 10lbs. When you think Forrest, you think hardworking, go the extra mile, give you the shirt off his back and of course "mailman". A weight restriction means his participation with the route will be limited. My mom is having to take leave from her job at the Winners Circle to become the mailwoman for the 700+ people the route includes. Also there will be daily trips to Rapid City to complete radiation therapy Monday through Friday for at least 35 treatments. Thankfully, the doctors have given my dad a 60-80% of beating this thing!
Since my mother is having to take that leave, there will be several difficulties switching to a single-income household. Before all of this started my parents had actually found out after paying months on an "insurance" it was fraudulent. We are actively working with the Senators office to mend that wrong. Now, medical bills are now starting to pile up, causing a large burden that no one wants or needs when starting a long, hard journey of treatment and recovery.
My family and I would like to thank you very much for even taking the time to read about our current hardship. We are asking to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
