Support Forrest Moore's Road to Recovery

I am Angel Smeeth Lafferty raising funds for Forrest Wayne Moore. He needs our prayers & our financial assistance. He is dealing with a fractured pelvis & subsequent need for a hip replacement on his right side. His journey began on February 17th, 2024. He traveled to Vietnam on 1/13/24 to assist his dear friend Vince & his wife Thuy, as they traveled back home to see her family in Vin Long, VN. Vince served in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War as a scout/sniper. He is not in good health at this time and Forrest used his FMLA time from his work at Klingspor to assist Vince. Forrest took the opportunity while in VN to visit his good friend Hieu in Lam Khan, outside Saigon. He also met several wonderful new friends, taking time to explore the local villages & enjoy their fascinating culture.
On February 17th, while he was traveling on Hieu's motorcycle, he was hit broadside, by 2 young ladies on a borrowed modified speed bike. They traveled at an excessive speed with disregard for safety. Forrest sustained a severe pelvic fracture on his right side that took a lengthy and complicated surgery to repair with wires & pins. Luckily money talks in Vietnam and Hieu was able to use all of his money, $4500, to get him to the "front of the line" and into an excellent surgeon in Ho Chi Min City in Saigon. Forrest now owes him for the surgery AND the replacement of his motorcycle!
His surgery was a success but required 10 days in the hospital & 10 additional days in a hotel near Hieu's home, laying flat on his back! Hieu & his wife helped Forrest by bringing him meals & helping to care for him, as those are not services provided by the hotel (or the hospital)! On March 13th he took the arduous & painful return flights back home to NC! This meant 29 grueling hours in airports & on planes to return home. And Thuy now had Two Invalides to escort back to the US!
Once back in Winston-Salem, NC Forrest experienced extreme pain & discomfort as he tried to maneuver around his house, only able to use his walker to get around. I helped set up "stations" in his home in his Bedroom, his Living room & his Office where he could move to the best of his ability without obstacles. He has water, snack type foods & his medications at each location.
We struggled with his primary physician to get appointments for a recheck, X-Rays & proper medical follow up. The pain & discomfort continued.
He has used all of his allowed vacation time from his job with Klingspor & any remaining FMLA, and is having to use his savings to pay for medications & food, not to mention rent & utilities!
On Friday 3/29, "Good Friday", before Easter, the pain had become unbearable and he was admitted to Wake Forrest Hospital. They took X-Rays and found the hip had come out of the socket & there were several bone fragments in & around the joint! Luckily the initial pelvic fracture was still holding in place, but they were concerned about infection & blood clotting in his leg! He was placed on a Heparin IV drip & given intravenous antibiotics through the weekend. They performed surgery on 4/2/24 to remove the fragments and do a FHO (Femoral head ostectomy). They planned to give that time to heal, for the antibiotics to take affect & to be sure there was no clotting, with hopes of the hip replacement soon.
He was released to go home but was told Complete Non-weight bearing on his right leg!! Again, he could only use his upper body strength & use a walker to maneuver around the house!! This time however, he has a heavy, painful, non-functioning right leg, with no femoral head!
On 5/22/24 they performed preliminary tests & lab work in preparation for surgery. Through a Transthoracic Echo (TTE) they discovered Forrest has a reduced ejection fracture, meaning the left ventricle systolic function is severely reduced; only functioning at 15-20% with aortic valve sclerosis. This means they want to hold off on the surgical repair of his hip & they need to look into the problem with his heart function!
Not only is Forrest completely frustrated, down hearted, but he continues to maneuver about in severe pain! And his funds are running out! The insurance he had through his employer terminated as of 4/25/24. He is 63, so may not be eligible for social security. He can not get unemployment because he is not physically able to work. He is looking into Medicaid and Obama care insurance through marketplace, but all of this takes time!! Meanwhile his funds are running out. His medications alone currently run $1675 per month, especially with the new heart medications.
The surgery (when he can finally have it) is estimated to cost $164,000. Blue Cross/Blue Shield (from his previous coverage) may cover much of this, but not the heart follow up appointments and treatments. He may have new heart medications following the stress test and visits with his cardiologist. All of these cost MONEY!
Forrest is 95% home bound, only going to doctor appointments primarily, with extreme pain. So, he needs our help! Friends, family, loved ones, please give generously to help Forrest meet the challenges in this lengthy process. He really wants to get this hip replacement surgery & get on the road to COMPLETE Recovery! Prayers are greatly appreciated. Financial assistance has become necessary. Thank you and God bless you!
