Support Former GB7s Players & Future 7s Stars on the International Stage

As you may know, the Great Britain men's and women's full-time sevens program was cut at the end of July. There are no more permanent contracts for players with the program switching to a camp-based model from 2025/26 due to financial constraints. This has led players without opportunity to play together and to compete on an international level except for the World SVNS Series.

Since the news was announced many in the rugby community have expressed anger and disappointment at this significant setback for the sport, however, the future for many former GB7s stars and aspiring GB7s players remains uncertain.

We did not want to sit on the sidelines any longer and we are asking for your help to make a difference to address the gap left by the defunding of the GB7s program.

We’re raising funds to support a team of 14 former GB7s women's players and standout athletes from the LIT Super Sevens Series to compete in a prestigious international rugby sevens competition this September — facing off against the top international sides of New Zealand 7s, Australia 7s, and Fiji 7s. The team will be competing under the name "LIT United Kingdom 7s."

This is more than just a tournament. It’s a unique opportunity to continue the legacy of GB7s, support the careers of former national players, and provide a platform for emerging talent to develop into future rugby 7s stars.

Your support will help cover costs of the tour including flights to Fiji, accommodation, kit, and other tournament expenses — ensuring our players can represent at the highest level and gain invaluable experience on the global stage.

Every contribution, big or small, brings us one step closer to our goal. Thank you for backing the future of British sevens rugby.

If any extra funds are raised that are not used for this tour, these funds will be used to support more opportunities for these players in the future.

Meet our Captain - Abbie Brown

Abbie Brown is a professional rugby sevens player for both England and Great Britain (GB7s). She has competed in two Olympic Games (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020), Commonwealth Games (Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022), and World Cups. She has captained both the England and GB7s teams, and co-captained the GB7s at the Tokyo Olympics.

Abbie has a huge amount of international experience having made her England XVs debut against Wales in the 2015 Six Nations. For rugby 7s, she has played in the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Series, the World Sevens Series, and for both England and GB7s. She competed in Rio 2016 (scoring twice in the quarter-final) and was co-captain at Tokyo 2020. She has also won a bronze medal with England at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Abbie is going to be the perfect leader on and off the pitch to bring together our experienced GB7s players and mixture of LIT Super Sevens Series players with her experience as captain of England of both international sides, England and GB7s, for over 9 years.
