For a short while now, I’ve been worried about my cousin Misty-Rei and her family who have been spending some time in the hospital for their 3-year-old son, Zion. We’ve decided to make this Go Fund Me to support them at this time. Here’s what’s happening:

“On August 31st, our lives changed forever. What we thought were just growing pains in Zion’s legs quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. At Kapiʻolani Medical Center, doctors discovered his red and white blood cells and platelets were dangerously low. A CT scan then revealed something even more terrifying — a large mass on his adrenal gland, pressing against his kidney.

The next day, doctors rushed to perform a biopsy of the mass and a bone marrow biopsy. On September 5th, we received the heartbreaking diagnosis: Zion has high-risk, stage 4 neuroblastoma. The cancer has already spread into the bones of his legs.

At just the start of his childhood, Zion is now beginning the fight of his life. He faces five rounds of aggressive chemotherapy over the next five months, followed by surgery to try to remove the tumor. After that, his battle will continue with more chemotherapy, stem cell treatment, and radiation therapy.”

This journey will be long, painful, and overwhelming — but Zion is a fighter. During this time, he will need round-the-clock care, meaning his parents must take time away from work to stay by his side. As a result, the family will inevitably fall short on covering basic living costs like food, rent, and other essentials while also shouldering the heavy emotional burden of this diagnosis.
